This testimonial page presents some of the positive impact stories as the showcase of the young women and girls we work with, starting from admitting to the recovery center with life-touching stories to the successful reintegration to community at large, that achieve financial independence through career solutions post-graduations.

AFESIP Cambodia’s general objectives are to care for and secure the rights of young women and girls who are victims or at risk of being victims of slavery and to successfully recover, educate, train and reintegrate them into mainstream society through financial independence in a sustainable and innovative manner. We accomplish this by helping and teaching them how to achieve financial independence through sustainable careers. We then welcome them to become part of our survivor empowerment network.

Each of the girls we work with presents in following pages, has a various touching life and inspirational story to tell the world with a powerful message. They are role models from which others can draw inspiration and courage. The positive impacts of our work, present here, is a life transforming from being a victim to a key solution by utilizing their life experiences and skills they equipped to help the other victims. They equipped various skills, they are new generation leaderships. We helped them to transform their lives one at a time, and they can make a difference for the other victims’ lives tomorrow and to make our community abuse free at one day.

Nora (KC-0033) is now 32 years old. She is a survivor of (attempting) child abuse when she was 17 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia, by Chief of village in April 2009, where she received safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated Master Degrees in Clinical and Psychological Counseling from Royal University of Phnom Penh, in June 2023. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 14 years.

She is a manager of psychology at AFESIP-Cambodia, she works to help other victims and their families (where needed) by supporting them with various activities of psychosocial-counseling and treatment upon arrival at the center; ongoing follows-up; art therapy; self-help group; primary mental healthcare and education prevention; yoga and meditation. She is a senior management team member. Her work is to promote mental health and wellbeing of the girls we work with and their families where they need.

Ratana (PP-3212) is now 29 years old. She is a survivor of child abuse since she was 7 to 17 years old, repeatedly. The perpetrator was arrested. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in July 2012, for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated Master Degrees in Clinical and Psychological Counseling from Royal University of Phnom Penh, in June 2023. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 11 years.

She is an Economic Empowerment Program manager. She works to help the girls and their families by conducting family-tracing and reconciliation; family and market assessment; reintegration plan; family and additional support; seeking for job employment; monitoring and follows up the active reintegration cases; business and work consultation; psychosocial counselling to reintegrated and newly admitted girls and their families (when needed) during taking-in process and counseling support during judicial process at courts. She is a senior management team member. She works to help the girls we work with to achieve financial independence through sustainable career solutions.

Lingya (SR-0095) is now 33 years old. She is a survivor of cross-bordered human trafficking to Thailand when she was 11 years. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in June 2004 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated MBA in 2023 from National University of Management. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 20 years.

She is an education and training program manager. She manages all the work of education and training program by providing middle and high school scholarship support to all the girls who stay in-and-outside Tom Dy center; higher-degree university scholarships; vocational skills training scholarships; English class; computer class and library. She is a senior management team member. She motivates and encourages the girls to study hard because she believes in education that can make one’s life a better future.

Sarak (PP-3280) is now 29 years old. She is a survivor of child abuse when she was 18 years old. The perpetrators were arrested and convicted to 10-year imprisonment each. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia for safety and recovery services, by DoWA in August 2013.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of nurse from International University in 2020. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 7 years.

After graduation, she works to help other victims by holding 2 important roles as Residential Program Manager and nurse.

She offers healthcare to all the girls upon arrivals in the AFESIP Cambodia, aiming at promoting their social welfare and wellbeing. She is a senior management team member who always brings the victims’ voices to the forefront. Her work is to promote healthcare of each girl we work with and their wellbeing.

Nary (PP-3289) is now 31 years old. She was a high-risk prevention case of child abuse. She was admitted to AFESIP Cambodia in October 2013, for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of accounting from International University in December 2017. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 4 years.

She works as coordinator of higher-degree university and vocational skills training scholarships. Her work is to support the girls to make their dream come true through skills orientation sessions and find them the right universities and vocational skills schools to support their inform-decision for their future career.

Chenda (KC-0062) is now 29 years old. She is a survivor of high-risk prevention case of child abuse when she was 15 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by local authority in September 2010, for safety reason and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Art in English in May 2022. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 12 years.

She works at English private school as a head-teacher. Her role is to ensures that the operation of the school runs smoothly; works closely with campus principals; staffs, students, parents to improve educational outcomes and provide a quality of learning environment, discipline, safety and confidence. On weekends, she teaches English to other small girls at AFESIP Cambodia for free of charge because she wants to give something back to a community where she lives in and to give hand to others who are in need at her capacity.

Sopheak (SR-0537) is now 24 years old. She is a survivor of child abuse when she was 14 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in January 2014, for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of hospitality and tourism management in May 2022. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 8 years.

She works as a ticket-seller at one of the travel tour companies in Phnom Penh, by utilizing the skills she studied in at university as her career. The skills she equipped with can break poverty line by earning regular income to support herself and her family at hometown.

Davin (PP-3218) is now 25 years old. She is a survivor of child abuse. The event happened when she was 13 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in July 2012 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Khmer Literature in June 2022. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 10 years.

After graduation, she works as Khmer teacher at one of the private schools in Phnom Penh. Her work is to transfer knowledge to the next generation.

Socheata (KC-0079) is now 26 years old. She is a survivor of high-risk prevention case of child abuse. She was admitted to AFESIP Cambodia in February 2011 when she was 11 years old for safety reason and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Management in February 2022. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 11 years.

She now works as finance officer at AFESIP-Cambodia and sometimes she goes down to fieldwork to take-in newly admitted girls to the center and accompany them to courts. Her work is to support the overall operation of AFESIP Cambodia on all financial documents and records.

Somaly (PP-3393) is now 22 years old. She is a survivor of child abuse and attempting to murder when she was 14 years old. The perpetrator was convicted to 8-year imprisonment. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in November 2016, for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Management in August 2023. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 7 years.

She works as coordinator of godparent in Survivor Empowerment Network (SEN) program, Administration and Human Resource Officer at AFESIP-Cambodia. She facilitates and coordinates communication between the sponsored girls and their godparents through our major donors abroad, and encourage the girls to study hard; goes down to the fields to take-in new victims and accompany them to courts, sometimes.


“Life is a challenge, no matter how big it is, even though I am a survivor had gone through horrible experience, but I had never given up my dream, I learn to do good thing, take care well of and motivate myself, focused on my goal and at the end I achieved it”. Sreyti (KC-0040) is now 24 years old. She is a survivor of child abused when she was 9 years old. She was admitted to AFESIP Cambodia in September 2009 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of law in October 2023 from Royal University of Law and Economic. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 14 years.

After graduation, she works as an assistant to a lawyer at one of the law-firms in Phnom Penh. She works to help others by providing judicial assistance throughout the legal process and help them to get justice.


“As a survivor, I had often been discriminated by my schoolmates but I bravely struggled on it most of the time and I had never given up until I made my dream come true by graduating my university degree. We design our own lives, not depend on others’ mouth”

Sreynach (PP-1898) is now 24 years old. She is a survivor of human trafficking and child abused when she was 4 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoSVY in July 2004 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Marketing and Communication in July 2023 from Western University. She received care and support from AFESIP for over 19 years.

After graduation, we reintegrated her with job Employment support as marketing staff at Burger King. Now, she can get regular income to supporting her living.

Sokleng (KC-0111) is now 26 years old. She is a high-risk preventive case of child abused when she was 15 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by local authority in November 20013 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of active military official in June 2023 from University of Active Military of Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for 10 years.

After graduation, we reintegrated her with job Employment support utilizing the skills she equipped with. She works as a military in United Nation Troop unit (UN blue cap) of Cambodia. She is an armed force of Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia.

Socheat (SR-0505) is now 25 years old. She is a survivor of cross-bordered human trafficking to Thailand when she was 3 years old. She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by DoWA in April 2013 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of Public Administration from Western University in July 2023. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for over 10 years.

After graduation, we reintegrated her with job employment support. She works at one of the private companies at call center unit.

Sokmeng (PP-3356) is now 23 years old. She is a high-risk preventive case of child abused when she was 15 years old.

She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by local authority and DoSVY in January 20016 for safety and recovery services.

She successfully graduated bachelor degree of management in June 2023 from Mekong University. She received care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for 4 years.

After graduation, we reintegrated her with job Employment support. She works as a teacher at a private school. Now, she can get regular income to support her family at home town.


“No matter where we are from, do not give up on the dreams we want to do, must persevere no matter how hard our past has been. I believe in education as it can change our life, if today is not our good day, tomorrow will be ours, keep going and going….”.

Sorya (PP-3347) is now 21 years old. She has 2 siblings of one younger brother. She studied grade 7 before admitted to the Tom Dy center of AFESIP Cambodia. In the future, she wanted to be either an army nurse or a policewoman. The mother is the garment factory worker and the father is a mobile duck-egg vendor by motor-bike. Her family condition is very poor. She came from Kampong Speu province.

She is a survivor of child abused, committed by a 70-years old neighbor, when she was 12 years old while her parents had gone out to work away from home. The alleged perpetrator was arrested and convicted to 10-year imprisonments.

She was referred to AFESIP Cambodia by Department of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (DoSVY) in October 2015 for safety and recovery services. At the center, she had received safe and secured accommodation, nutrition, physical and mental healthcare services, legal assistance and formal education at public school.

She spent 4 years to study in university after she passed the high school exams. She receives full scholarship and holistic care, short course of English language and computer and 1 laptop for supporting her study from AFESIP Cambodia. Now, she successfully graduated bachelor degree of Law from Western University in May 2024, but she does not yet receive her diploma. She received holistic care and support from AFESIP Cambodia for approximately 9 years.

She is now working as Legal Officer at AFESIP Cambodia. She works to help the other victims by taking-in newly admitted victim to the center; accompany the victims to testify and attend hearings at courts; brings in lawyers to represent and defend the victims throughout judicial system. She works with lawyers, clerk, prosecutors, magistrates and judges, local authorities, legal aid partners and other stakeholders. Our key-goal is to empower victim to become survivor and empower survivor to be part of solution. She is one of the showcases of the positive impact of our key-goal. She uses the skills she studied in at school to help others who have gone through the same or similar fate she did.
